A BILL to amend article seven, chapter eighteen-b of the code of
West Virginia, one thousand nine hundred thirty-one, as
amended, by adding thereto a new section, designated section
twelve, relating to providing for maternity leave for higher
education personnel.
Be it enacted by the Legislature of West Virginia:
That article seven, chapter eighteen-b of the code of West
Virginia, one thousand nine hundred thirty-one, as amended, be
amended by adding thereto a new section, designated section twelve,
to read as follows:
ARTICLE 7. PERSONNEL GENERALLY.
ยง18B-7-12.
Maternity leave.

Notwithstanding any other provision of this code to the contrary, female employees of the governing boards shall, upon
request, be granted paid maternity leave. The minimum maternity
leave that the employee is entitled to is fifteen working days,
which the employee shall be entitled to take at or about the
employee's date of expectancy of giving birth. Paid maternity
leave may be extended up to thirty working days upon a qualified
medical physician's certification that the additional leave is
needed due to the medical condition of either mother or child.

NOTE: The purpose of this bill is to provide for maternity
leave for female employees of higher education.
